Chomerics: advanced solutions for automotive electronics

Posted 19 May 2016

Chomerics Europe, a division of Parker Hannifin, has published an updated guide to its solutions for automotive electronics. The document covers EMI shielding, grounding, engineered plastics, thermal management and optical displays.

The increasing level of electronics content within cars continues to rise driven by safety, infotainment and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). This brings with it a corresponding rise in the EMI/RFI shielding and thermal management challenges. These must be addressed to ensure that electronics systems and modules work reliably in the harsh electrical environment that is typical of in-vehicle applications. The growing popularity of electric and electric hybrid vehicles has added further complexity to the tasks facing electronic design engineers.

Automotive application areas covered by the guide are: infotainment and driver information systems; battery management; driver and safety systems; body and chassis electronics; and engine management and power train.

Chomerics’ EMI shielding and grounding solutions discussed include: RF absorbers, conductive elastomers, form-in-place gasketing, and conductive plastics. Thermal management covers thermally conductive gels, gap fillers, insulators and phase change materials. Optical displays with shielding properties are also listed.
