The market across Europe is generally very flat, however Mouser is still growing – indeed, we celebrated our best ever sales performance in the first quarter of 2013. EMEA is our top- performing region again in 2013 with over 24% growth on the back of similar growth last year. We believe that this is because Europe remains a power-house of design – and our business model, as a design-fulfilment distributor, is to focus 100% on supporting design engineers with the latest available technology as they look to differentiate their new products.
New designs almost always start with innovative semiconductors, very often a processor or processor core. MPUs or MCUs are being used to differentiate products in all sectors, from automotive, where even small cars are now including sophisticated features such as tyre pressure monitoring and reversing cameras, to medical instrumentation for home or remote diagnostics and many other applications across all areas of human activity
Therefore, our approach is simple: we must make it as fast and as easy as possible for design engineers to access innovative MPU and MCU devices and associated products. We do this by signing the best franchises, by insisting on holding large stocks which we can deliver to most places in Europe within two to three days, and by supporting design activity with a broad range of applicable services.
Expanding on this last point, today’s complex processors and controllers require very careful design-in, and an increasingly-sophisticated range of soft and hardware development tools. At Mouser, we understand that designers need the full technology ‘ecosystem’ – device itself, software development system, development board, design ideas and documentation – so that they literally ‘have the tools to do their job’.
As well as offering hard and software tools from our partner suppliers, we have created our own online tools, significantly simplifying and shortening the design cycle while ensuring that customers benefit from latest component advances. As well as providing detailed design information, Mouser recently developed a unique BOM tool and added a Search Accelerator, speeding the complex process of building BOMs and ensuring that the most appropriate component choices are made.
Mouser’s intelligent BOM tool at www.mouser.com/bomtool enables users to set preferences and maintain their own formatting, and is the first to feature built-in Part Resolution Intelligence, enabling users to quickly find parts without full part numbers. BOMs can be uploaded to the tool as a simple parts list or in the customer’s original Excel format. www.mouser.com/bomtool is the only online BOM tool that can quote up to five columns of customer specified quantities; it is also the only online tool that can include competitor part numbers in the part search and can auto-select columns based on customer header information. It is able to search for alternative parts and provide detailed parts’ status information – price, stock, leadtime, RoHS compliance. BOMs can be saved for future reference.
Mouser’s new Search Accelerator at www.mouser.com/accelerator turns any web browser into a parts finder by enabling the user to search for any part number or keyword from any website then check availability on www.mouser.com without leaving the current page. More, the Search Accelerator can now be used with the near-ubiquitous Microsoft® Office platform enabling component information to be obtained from popular software programs. Simply highlight any part number or keyword in an Outlook email message or Excel spreadsheet and click ‘Search Mouser’ to instantly preview search results and product details.
Mouser supports design activity in all sectors. Visitors to http://www.mouser.com/applications/ will find a wealth of information and resource on many subjects, from LED Lighting to Smart Grid, Energy Harvesting to Solar, Automotive to Medical and much more. And we believe that no matter where volume production occurs, the creativity of Europe’s design engineers will always be a valued resource, which needs nurturing.
