7 fellows & 7 thoughts about Moore’s Law

Fifty years ago, Intel’s Gordon Moore predicted that the number of transistors per chip would double each year. It became a ‘Law’ that would be followed by the chip industry and define its success. By way of comparison: if automobiles had followed the same development pathway as chips, we would now be able to drive them at 500,000 km/h, only consume 0.1 liters per 100 km and they’d only cost 4 euro.

To mark the 50th anniversary of Moore’s Law, we asked the seven imec fellows about how they view Moore’s Law and the effect it has on their particular area of research. Enjoy the seven thoughts on Moore’s Law!
